Harbour
Over 13.000 sea-going ships call every year at Hamburg´s port that covers nearly 12% of the city. The Oevelgönne Museumshafen boasts a wide range of vintage ships: Rickmer Rickmers, a restored windjammer, and the Cap San Diego, an old freighter turned museum, are permanently docket at St. Pauli Landungsbrücken.
There is even a floating museum of U-boat 434 – a vintage Cold War submarine. Grand Harbour Tours run daily from St. Pauli Landungsbrücken throughout the various basins that make up the harbour offering close up views of the ships, terminals, channels, and canals – especially the Speicherstadt, the historic warehouse area.
At the Willkommhöft at Schulau – the harbour “welcoming point” – you´ll hear the national anthem of almost every ship played as the ship enters and leaves.
